Self-care is not about being self-centred or selfish, it’s not about being an egotistical human being nor is it about getting a massage or getting your hair done. It’s not treating yourself to a new wardrobe or a day spent at the spa. Self-care is not about lacking in compassion for anyone other than yourself. Self-care is not just warranted for hard work nor is it only retained for certain people. Self-care is not self-serving, it is not only you who benefits from self-care.
Self-care is about pressing pause, not criticising yourself, it’s taking time out to reflect in a healthy way. It’s about finding out what works for you and not comparing yourself to others. Self-care is about learning about yourself and accepting who you are. It’s about observing what motivates you and what is best to alleviate stress and anxiety. It is the very foundation of our spiritual well-being and reflects how we conduct ourselves with people and the world around us.
